    Default Favorite Western Movie?

    Hey guys,

The title says it all, just curious what your favorite western movie of all time is. I'm an old guy and grew up on westerns, both at the movies and on TV. I've probably seen almost every western ever made over the last 50 some years. It's sad to me that westerns are rarely done anymore, with everything now seeming to be all that science fiction, computer enhanced crap. There have been so many great westerns over the years with names like John Wayne, Jimmy Stewart, Glen Ford, Clint Eastwood, and the list goes on. If I had to pick my all time favorite though, it would have to be hands down, Lonesome Dove with Robert Duval and Tommy Lee Jones. It's a 6 hour mini-series that I have seen from begining to end at least 7 or 8 times, if not more. Lonesome Dove has everything that makes a western great such as humor, action, love, honor, and sadness. How about your favorite?

On a side note, my favorite TV western series is without a doubt Gunsmoke. Matt Dillon was the man ! I still watch Gunsmoke reruns every day that we tape on 2 different networks. Yeah, you could say I like westerns .

From what little I watched of it, Lonesome Dove may well be the best western ever...Duvall certainly was great in it.

However, my favorite western is El Dorado, starring John Wayne & Robert Mitchum. Makes me want to "ride, boldly ride"
every time I watch it. My kids even sing the theme song.

Then, there's McClintock, too...that's just plain fun!

Fistful of Dollars, closely followed of course by For a Few Dollars More and The Good the Bad and the Ugly.

Those are classics to be sure, but more recently, I also really loved Cowboys and Aliens, what a blast! Western and Sci-fi, how can you go wrong ?

The outlaw Josey Whales, Lonesome Dove is great, the original True Grit was good, the remake was ok. I really like all the Clint Eastwood's except 2-Mules For Sister Sarah. Gunsmoke was great and heck I liked Bonanaza. I would watch them with my grandpa when I was small.
    Good shoot'n!

Not too sure if it classifies as a western.....Jeremiah Johnson. By far the best. Although I do really like the Outlaw Josey Whales, as well as Open Range. JJ is still my favorite though.

    Monte Walsh (both of them).

    Will Penny.

Just about ANY John Wayne western (McLintock!, Big Jake, Eldorado, Rio Bravo, and the Cav Trilogy are favorites).

    Any of the Selleck westerns.

    The Professionals.

    The Wild Bunch.

    The Magnificent Seven.

    Any of the Bronson westerns.

The Rounders with Henry Fonda and Glenn Ford. One of the best western comedies.

Comes a Horseman. Hanoi Jane notwithstanding, one of the best depictions of actual cowboying. James Caan and Richard Farnsworth make up for Jane.

All the Pretty Horses. A bit touchy feel at times.

    The Rough Riders.

    In Pursuit of Honor.
