    Default poor dog

Dam; My 9 year old black lab just had a aneurysm in one of her discs on her spine which caused left back leg to be non-functional.I guess it caused a blood clot that led to a stroke. My wife and I had a hard choice to make but we had the vet put her on pain and anti-infamatorys and were going to try to keep her. She does have a little bit of feeling in that leg so I guess with some rehab she might be ok. Her days afield I think are done. She will be a house dog I guess. Her leg will never get fuction but she is the quickest, smartest lab I have ever had so I couldn't let her go. We will pick her up Monday and see how it goes. The vet said she has seen this in labs on more than once. Anybody else go through this? Any suggestions? The vet said there is no lingering pain and dogs are pretty adaptable to three legs. Have to give her a chance....This is the same dog that had two TPLO's. I never thought I'd have a 7000.00 dollar dog but thats the way it goes.Ya can't take it with you.

    RWS:

Sorry to hear about your faithfull hunting companion. Your vet is right - dogs are extremely adaptable to mobility challenges. Here's a video that may inspire you and your family in these dark times:

We have several thousand $$$ into our 13.5 year old Golden Retreiver and don't regret a minute of it. She is family. Long gone are my days of growing up and taking the hound to the Vet once a year for shots! And that was it

Good luck and hope it works out

    RWS...

How's your Labby doing? Stuff like this just shouldn't happen to dogs. What I would give to rub my old Cedar's ears one last time...

If there is no pain and the quality of life is still good more power to you both.
