  1. Re: Looking for experienced backpacker/hunter in TX

Less material and lighter. The ghillie has a lot of stuff to collide with a bowstring and to me, it looks awful hot. Snipers have my respect for sitting still all day with those things on. You...
  2. Re: Looking for experienced backpacker/hunter in TX

If you're continuing to hunt at Fort Hood, you're seeing game, just not big enough to shoot. I would not be moving around, as those are stand areas that gets some pressure, and so, the animals are...

Sticky: Re: Good folks to deal with!

My friend, Shtfco, is a gear head, with a habitual turning over of good gear. And when he does, you'll get gear in great shape and fair dealing. Worry not.....
  5. Re: Looking for experienced backpacker/hunter in TX

Corin, tell us a bit about what you've been hunting, how and where? I've taken over a dozen bowhunters to Shiloh Ranch in Oklahoma hog hunting for their first bowkills, including one fellow in a...

    Shiloh Ranch, April 2-6

We have openings for 2 bowhunters for an April hog hunt at Shiloh Ranch. (No rifles this trip, or handguns. Rule is if anyone objects, no guns, and at least one in this group would object.) Since I...

    Re: Electoral college

My answer to this question is simple. What modern political hack is smarter than the Founding Fathers?

The system worked as intended. Not liking the outcome because Hillary lost is corral dust.

Re: White Tail Deer Loads in .308

My experience with the accubond 30/180 has been with a 300 WSM, but often at ranges where velocities have dropped below the 308 levels at 100 yards. Every time they have worked perfectly, and done...

Re: Recommend me a "first bow?"

If you're not able to buy a new bow, the used racks at the bowshops are good. Certain designs, like the Bowtech line, are adjustable from 26-31" in draw. You can buy used stuff fairly cheap at...

Re: Best Hiking Boot for the Money ?

My Han Wag mountain lights are over ten years old, have gone everywhere, and have a lot of miles left before they'd even need resoling. I would not be surprised if they make 20 years.
  15. Re: Ever notice that the best down jackets/parkas come in the worst colors?

Oh, I don't know. That this is a hunter's website, and he's asking about the "hunting manufacturers" to do so, I think that gives rise to a permissible inference here.
  16. Re: Ever notice that the best down jackets/parkas come in the worst colors?

what kind of hunting? If it's rifle, you're often wearing an orange vest that is much worse than the jacket.

I have a number of down coats, all in black. The shells tend to be noisy, so I will...

    Swarovski 8x20b binoculars

I have a pair of 8x20 B Swarovski binos for sale. I bought them new years ago, used them a fair bit, and then, bought a pair of Kahles 10x42 binos in 2007 that get most of the use. The Swarovskis...

That would be expensive, even when I shot a longbow. For me, 4 yards is fine, if I shoot with my eyes closed. Form mistakes show up immediately when you are not looking at anything.

    Re: Change to tip weight

A 45 lb recurve shooting a normal weight arrow, and cut on contact broadheads, is plenty. I don't think you'll need to change anything. We find 3 blade broadheads or 4 blades, all COC, seem to work...
