TRIDENT P2
My oldest, offering tender words of encouragement to a fish.
The process begins of making MEN out of wimpy teenage boys.
She made two cry, one faint, and one have an 'accident'.
That was day one.
In P2's 30 year history, they've never had a female C.O.
It appears that will change in the near future.

Anth,
You think she can help me out in about 15 years. The little fellow is wearing me out. I am pretty sure he was born in the right state, hard headed and reluctant to change...

Anth,
Good show! I just sent one of my seniors from 2006, who also shot for me on the team, down to A&M. He just received his ROTC scholarship for his remaining four years.

My wife has a second cousin in the Corps at Aggieland. He's a senior on the Air Force side, but probably would have been one of the ones crying the first day as a freshman.
I work with a bunch of ex Corps "turds". Good folks.
Is your daughter going to go active duty upon graduation?
For those interested in some funny stories, the Aggie Corps has some infamous history due to their zeal for their role in maintaining A&M's traditions. Anthracitic, your daughter has probably told you all of these before but here goes:
1. About ten or so years ago an SMU cheerleader violated a tradition about nobody getting on the field during a game. A cadet chased her off of it - with his saber drawn! This story is very well known.
2. This one is a little more obscure, but several coworkers who are former cadets swear its true. In the years following WWI, A&M was still a male school. Students were teased a lot. Apparently Baylor teased a little too much during or after a football game. An all-out brawl erupted after the game in which a cadet got hit in the head with something and died shortly thereafter. Not to let such an injustice go unpunished, a group of cadets loaded a howitzer on a train along with live ammo and headed toward Waco with every intent of lobbing a few rounds at the campus. The Texas Rangers got the train stopped a few miles short of their destination.

Tamu CC, Trident P-2 SSGT. Pisshead Cutter, USMC, scores a 295 out of a possible 300 on the USMC PT test this morning. Highest score recorded, male or female. She SMOKED ALL 35 males in the two-mile run.

Anthracitic,
I am totally impressed with both of you! Congratulations to you both. To Your Oldest in her own right and to a properly proud Dad who is seeing much fruit on the tree that he nurtured so carefully all these years.
You both are LEADING by going out front and LIVING the example and BEING the example!
Dang! That's great living right there!

Pilgrim, your kind words are appreciated. You obviously get it.
She's on deck at the USMC leadership conference (5 days) at Notre Dame next week.

Anthracitic,
You mentioned a 2 mile run, the USMC is a 3 mile run. That's why I was confused.

Correction, should read "three mile". My mistake!

When I was a Hospital Corpsman attached to a USMC unit (1980 - 1985), the girls had a separate PFT, with different values. They ran two miles, didn't do regular pull ups (they did some kind of hang thing), and I think they did the same kind of sit ups. Males had to run three miles in 18 minutes, do 20 pullups, and do 80 situps in two minutes to score 300 points (the max). The girls were "adjusted" to reflect a similar scoring for their PFT.
A female outrunning all the males will encourage the pukes to get their butts in gear. When I was in, I could never beat a 20-minute run. I could do the max pullups and situps, but moving my 190-pound frame any faster didn't work.
My daughter was in the Air Force and routinely took tops in her unit's rifle-shooting requalifications. I guess all our range time paid off. Sure keeps the slackers in line.

The PFTs have changed slightly, but not much. The situps are now crunches, but instead of 80, you must do 100. As for the women's quals, they now also do a 3 mile run and yes, instead of pull ups they do a "flexed arm hang". They must keep their chin over the bar for as long as possible.
It's pretty rare that a woman beats all the men. Good for her. My run times always sucked but I could score perfects on my pull ups and crunches so I still managed to get 1st class PFTs. If she's got the run down, she'll be able to get to a 300 no problem.
I think the MCRD San Diego record for the 3 mile is 14 minutes and some change. Which is absolutely ridiculous. I don't think I can even run fast enough to do that pace let alone keep it up for 3 miles. A buddy of mine scored a 300 PFT on every PFT he ever took...made me sick.

For the record she does pullups, not flexed arm hangs.

Hanzo,
If I'm not mistaken, a fellow Corpsman also holds 14 minute record at Camp Pendleton. I can't remember his name, but he was stationed with me when I was in. He went on to run some great times in several well-known marathons, too. It really ticked off the Marines because they wanted the title. They were also happy to have us "docs" able to keep up with them.

William,
That doesn't really surprise me. MCRD is so small, I expect someone at Pendleton to do better. As far as it being a squid...well...at least he was a CORPSman. And yes, it's always nice to have a "doc" who can keep up (let alone breeze past you). As far as I'm concerned, the Corpsman are one of us anyway, so it's all good. And I know I wouldn't be upset at the fact that the guy who's job it is to patch me up is the fastest guy around.

Hanzo,
My son just finished four years with the USMC, came home and did two semesters of college, and now is headed to Fort Hood, Texas as an ARMY DOG (Calvary Unit Scout).
Also, do you know why they call us Navy men squids? Because we float around out in the ocean and sh** on Marine life. /images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif
Now watch me run a 14 minute, three mile run . . . the other way.
Take care Marine,

Hahaha, no worries. I love messing around with the Navy guys, they're good times. The way I see it, we each have a job to do, we understand that, we do the job well, no problems.
Now, the army on the other hand... /images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif

Congratulations to the both of you. I imagine "proud" is an understatement. A few years back I had a woman who worked for me who was one of the first women to go through the program there. You wouldn't know it by looking at her, but she was tough as nails and there was not one thing she couldn't do.
It was my privilege to work with her, haven't seen one like her since.

A dude named Kennedy set the MCRD record when I was there in Jan-Apr 96 for boot. He was my special recruit. I had to help him get dressed make his bed Etc. Dude had F@CK IT tattooed across his shoulder 4" tall I kid you not. Sorry to necro post but thought you would like that chunk of MCRD trivia.
