Here is a photo of my 16-man used this September in the Nutzotin Mountains of Alaska for our longbow moose hunt. Pitching the tipi was a challenge because we camped on a gravel riverbed overgrown with willow patches. Ninety percent of the soil was mixed-size gravel with absolutely no ability to hold a standard stake. Without SST pins we would not have been able to pitch the tipi. SST pins saved our bacon!

Ken, in spite of the fact that it was unusually warm and the rut wasn't in full swing yet we saw lots of bulls. Four that were definitely legal (minimum 50" or with 4 brow tines on one side) and one that was verging on exceptional. Managed to get within 50 yards of a 60"+ bull but couldn't get quite close enough to close the deal with our longbows. With a rifle it would have been a meat-hauling extravaganza but the hunting would have been minimized.

...A meat hauling extravaganza!...hahaha...

That's one way to put it!

Sounds like a great trip.

Nice Pic.Would love to get up there one day.Has to stay in my dreams right now...I had the same problem with pegs in northern Ontario.Very rocky ground.Had a little forethought and dealt with the peg issue before getting up there or we would have run into a problem too.

I like the way the tipi follows the angles of the mountain. Even has a white cap at the peak. /images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

Nice photo, any more to follow? I used a 6 man on a float hunt and that worked well I think. Most of our sites were a tad muddy albeit frozen part of the time as the river was about 6 feet lower than usual unless we camped up from the river banks. Were you doing spot and stalk or calling?

Beta male, we were doing both spot and stalk as well as calling. We spotted one nice herd bull with 4 cows about 1.25 miles away. Studied him through the optics and then proceeded to stalk within 50 yards, but got no closer. Too bad - he was a dandy!
