Just got back from fly fishing the Elk river and some of its tributaries in S.E. British Columbia. This is cutthrought trout fishing at its finest, the fish are shaped like footballs many in the 18" range. Recent rain and run off made the fishing a little tough but a good hatch of stone fly in the afternoon got the fish feeding. If you get up in Glacier Park area and like to fish take time to swing a little north to Fernie B.C. and check this fishery out. Remember returning to the U.S. you need a passport or birth certificate and drivers license.

I was just up there the week before last, the Elk was high and a touch dirty; this is my old stompin' grounds from when I was a kid in the B.C.F.S. I saw a nice Grizzly a short drive down the road from the Elk Valley-Bighorn Outfitters camp and a fair amount of other game. I wanted to go up the Abruzzi and Cadorna Cr., but, was pressed for time. Too bad the accursed strip mines were ever allowed in this area, it was damnn close to paradise before that disaster.

kute - whats your take on phosphate leaching from the coal bed making aquatic life so plentiful in the Elk. The # of fish in that river is amazing making me think something out of the ordinary is happening. The newly imposed $20 per day rod fee on trophy class water is slowing license sales to aliens. We bought our licenses at a store just north of the port of Rooseville, last year at this time they had sold 40 licenses this year 6. The rod fee probably will not stop vacationers but seems to be slowing down border dwelling Montanans. Where in B.C. do you hang your hat?
