I have been thinking about developing some loads for my 358 win for deer hunting more open areas that I might find in Eastern Washington. I already have a great 225 gr partition load for the Cascades area for bear and elk. I was thinking that a 180gr would work well for deer that are a litle farther out. Does anyone have any suggestions for a good load?

Thanks, Erik.

Erik--

Try 49gr. IMR 4198. I used an X bullet. Start lower of course. I can't seem to find the speed on this load, but if memory serves it was around 2800fps. Not a bad all around load, frankly. But I settled on 225gr. bullet for elk/bear, as you have. But I remember swatting a 200 plus pound boar with this same bullet, at not much faster speed--maybe 2850, in a 350 Rem. Mag. a while back. About 225 yard shot. In other words, this load is not messin' around. Good luck. Gotta love them 358's!
