Anyone know if there is somebody that makes contender barrels in .45 LC that are NOT also chambered for the 410?

I have a 45/410 barrel and the accuracy is horrible. To long a jump for the 45 bullets.

My plan is this. I took a contender carbine with a 16" 30-30 and fixed 4x power scope on my ramble through Mo and Ar last year and I really liked it. Light, very short, and easily taken down and stored in my pack when I had to travel in more populated areas. I thought that the 30-30 might be a little light for all the hogs that run around in these parts( you all saw what was killed in Ga a while back) and thought about uping the power a little bit by going to the 45 Lc and using BB ammo in it. I am not sure what my range would be but if it wasn't more than a 125 yds ( any suggestions on what would be an effective range of BB's heavy 45 LC loads?) I could ditch the scope and go with peeps and a Docter red dot sight. Losing the scope would lighten me up a little, as would cutting out the stock like Ingeniare did on his Ruger. I know single shots are not that popular in our discussions, but dang it sure is a compact little fella. Thanks Dan

The only reason that TC makes the dual chambering is to cover the legalities of federal law.

You can have a custom made barrel from their custom shop in 45 Colt only.

I must have missed the listing from the custom shop. I'll have to look again, or maybe call them. Thanks Dan

Dan,

What about going with a .45-70 barrel instead? It would increase your range 75-100 yrd.

My last contender had a 16" .35 Rem. factory barrel, look at the BB 220 gr. load as an option. Williams makes a small peep sight for it, fits on the rear scope base holes perhaps Ashley does also?

I have a 30-30 contender. I use a Bushnell Holosight on it and really love it. I reload the Sierra 135 gr pistol bullet. It likes a Federal 210M primer and 27.5 grains of IMR4198.

I have thought about other calibers but thought about the 45 LC due to lighter weight or at least more compact size. The main reason I went with the 30-30 in the first place is that you can always find ammo for it. Almost all of the hill folk you might run across have a 30-30 stuck somewhere, and there are a lot of 45 LC revolvers running around in the woods to. I don't have a lot of faith in finding 45-70 or 35 rem shells should I ever run out. But I do like my 45-70 its just the shells are pretty bulky. Dan

Rooster, does Sierra still make that 135gr SSP bullet? (SSP=Single Shot Pistol)

As far as I know they still make the SSP 135 gr. I bought a box of 100 about 8 months ago.
I really think the 30-30 with a good accurate load and good shot placement would fill your needs. I certainly enjoy shooting mine. I have muzzletamer 16" barrel. Very little recoil.

Don't forget the lowly 44 Magnum. I've killed a pile of hogs with it. It really puts a wallop on them, and will knock them off their feet inside 50 yards. Use solids, not hollowpoints on hogs. You want to be able to shoot him between the eyes and have it come out the butt.

44 ammo is easy to find as well. As far as range goes, hogs are blind as bats, but have a nose like a turkey has eyes. If the wind is in your face, you can get within 20 yards; if it ain't - you ain't gonna see'em anyhow.
