View Full Version : Patrick, Tipi w/Stove Off Center?

After reading jimd thread about rentals and his question dealing with head room, I got to wondering...

Have you experimented with moving the stove farther off center? I realize this goes against basic tipi design, but it would allow for more head room, and a larger clothes drying area.

If it could work, I would think moving the stove towards one of the non-door sides?

Just curious.

Hi Chris, I missed this initially.

Let's see, often I have to remember why I designed something the way I did. I'd say that moving to the side would inhibit sleeping area, certainly. Also, the less stovepipe inside the tipi means reduced heat production. The stovepipe needs to be as long as it is for proper draw; if a whole bunch of it were sticking outside the shelter it wouldn't be as secure as it is "grasped" at it's very top as it is now. That enough reasons for ya?

Yeah, thats some pretty good reasons.

I'm lookin foward to the CO rondy. I rented a 4 man last Sept, but would really like to check all the options out.
