Interesting looking bit of multiuse winter kit I noticed while doing a bit of impending ski trip surfing!! Might make it into a light daypack when being lazy and a proper snow shovel wouldn't!!

REI $13.95 - ordered as a late Christmas present!! /images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

Before I get jumped on - I am not suggesting in any way it might be any good in avalanche country!! Just thought it was interesting enough to post about. An approaching 2-week Telemark trip to the Swiss Alps is turning me into a real kid!!

Looks interesting. This is a variant of the classic Eskimo snow shovel. Essentially a flat paddle with a stub grip on the rear and a loop handgrip toward the front.

I think I might get one of these. Light, compact, inexpensive - what's not to love? As for avalanche, it will move more snow than your hands will.

That was the Christmas gift I delivered to all of my skiing buddies a few years ago. I was smart enough to keep a couple for myself. One stays behind the seat of the truck for those times when you need to clear a little runway for takeoff. The other has been used for building snow furniture, clearing out deep snow before setting up the tipi and clearing around ice fishing holes. Yeah, I'd still want something with a handle in avalanche terrain. But, the price and the weight are right, and it fits perfectly when you cinch down the Cargo Chair on a Spike Camp.

I hadn't thought of the glissade application. Sure woulda been less painful to ride back when we had the downhill snow shovel competitions at Big Sky.
