It’s a PARATIPI CHRISTMAS
I could not believe my ears when my Sister told me she ordered me a Brown Paratipi with small stove as a Christmas gift. Wow what a gift. She was kinda mad however. She was told that the stove would be in before the holiday and that the tipi would take a bit longer. Well they sent an email that stated do to inventory taking the order has not been shipped yet. That’s ok by me because in the end I am getting a cool brown paratipi and stove. Happy! Happy! Joy! Joy! I will post Picks of the PARATIPI inside and out after I get it. I know some people wanted to see more Photos on the board. Also I was reading that silicon caulk was the best thing to use. Is this true? I use it on my silnylon tarps but never thought about using it on other materials.

Merry Christmas! I just got my Paratipi and camped in it this weekend at 18degrees in western Colorado. Had my (can't say name here) 20degree sleeping bag and stayed comfortable after the fire went out. Did get up to water the sage about 2:30 and had a little condensation/ice on the inside but not too bad. Fired up the small stove and went right back to dreamland. It was a fun experience. The little stove is a cooker too. Did muley steaks in the pan, mushrooms, rice. Had to shuffle the pots but got'er done. We were camped on a spectacular spot between Gateway and Naturita along the Delores river. Sat around a shot our rifles at holes up on the cliffs. Fun, Fun.
When I got the little guy, I set it up in the backyard and did the seams. I took the provided silicone sealer, and squished it in a cup. Slowly began added mineral spirits and stirring until I had a thick pudding like consistency. Took a 2" paint brush and started over the seams. Took about ten-fifteen minutes. The wind gusts that day hit 50 miles an hour plus but she stayed up and dryed nicely. I read about this process on this board and it is a winner. Enjoy the 1lbs, 14oz (without poles, stakes) shelter!

Woods walker...use GE silicone II 100% silcone and follow RTillery's advice with the mineral spirits. You have a great sister!!!
Good luck with your tipi...

That canyon is pretty, did you do any fishing. I love that section of our state. I am on the otherside of the plateau, but often think about doing some looking over there. I have always been suprised how little game I have seen over there. It looks like it would be great, but I have never seen a lot. Then again only been their half a dozen times or so. Sounds fun.

MMan, The whole purpose of the trip was to try and pick a spot to apply for rifle deer and elk tags for next year. I am trying to find a decent area to get buck tags on second choice but I do not think it is going to be 60. I am sure there are animals in there but I did not see them in any numbers. The river had an awful lot of ice and was fairly low. Never even considered fishing. Is it any good down that far? Years ago I fished the Delores right below McPhee and it was spectacular.
I have three other fellows I have hunted with for years and I am stuck mostly truck camping. I am trying to find a place that has good numbers of critters, good access and still have a chance to draw into on a second choice application. Anybody want to give me some preference points?

I am curious about places to hunt out West... This coming hunting season I will be moving, but the next season I am taking my dad out there to do some rambling hunting. Do you have any advice on state (ease of getting permits as well as huntability), and area. Also, any other advice would be great. I have some experience being in the bush, but not hunting in this manner.

Thanks for the advice everyone. I should be getting the stove in next week however the tipi will be delayed another 6 to 8 weeks. But with any luck I should get it in time for winter camping. But the stove should be fun. Thinking of setting the stove up under a tarp as a make shift thing until the paratipi comes in.

Smackdaddy,
I assume elk are in the picture here.
JMHO, but I would focus on MT, WY, ID. CO is obviously nice as well, I just think it is easier to get away from the crowd in each of the other states.
Depends what you want to do.

To be perfectly honest, I don't care what I hunt, as long as it is deer sized or larger. Remember, the deer in the Southeast are like big dogs, so I am used to small deer. I train a bit in the bush here in MO and I have seen quite a few deer, and they are HUGE compared to what I am used to. My primary goal is to get away from roads and heavily populated hunting areas. I guess that out west, you have to request certain numbers of certain animals. In the east we just get a big game license and can shoot deer or hog, that is about all the options you have. This should probably bo moved to a PM format or another thread. I would certainly be interested in Elk, Moose, Deer and even Bear. Thanks for the information. If there are not many PMs, I will start a thread.
