I have been using ultra light silnylon gear for a few years now. All the makers of this equiptment strongly warn against even getting a candle lantern near this matieral, saying that it would continue to burn. Can anyone explain the different burn resistance (I assume) of an ultra light tipi?

Thanks,

John Leonard

2nd wind--

We use American silicon-on-both-sides material instead of the import stuff, so I don't really know how to compare. Our stoves have screens to filter out sparks. But when testing our ultralite tipis I intentionally left the screens out to see what would happen. Despite numerous melt holes from the resultant sparks settling on the fabric it never caught fire. Passed the test in other words.

I have wandered your neck of the woods many times. My rep when I owned Mountainsmith lived in Boone. Good country up there. The "Balds" on your ridges make that stretch of the Appalachians my favorite. Welcome to the Board.
