BOOT REVIEW
Hi everybody,
although this is not about backpacks, I decided to post it anyhow because iI'm sure some will find it interesting.
The best built Kifaru packs can't help you with one thing: hurting feet! Since good footwear and comfortable feet are essential to load carrying, I wanted to tell you about my new boots.
I took my old German military boots out to a 15 mile hike a while ago. I never had troubles with them before but it seemed that my feet had changed (to the better I hope) and these boots just didn't cut it anymore.
So I decided to spend a chunck of money ($200) and invest in a pair of Lowa Scout boots. Lowa is a German company and has been making serious hiking and mountaineering footwear for a while now. (www.lowaboots.com) The Scout is the civilian edition of Lowa's military boots (used by German mountaineering troops).
Let me tell you, these boots are great. I've been breaking them in for 3 days now and they already feel very comfy. Full leather lining (I didn't get the goretex variant)and well supported fit.
Interesting for you military folks: mine came in a blueish gray color. After one application of a recommended waterproofing cream/grease they turned pitch black and will stay that way.
Hope this has been valuable info for some of you. Have a good one,
Jan
