How do folks best do it with a compound bow.
I've got two pack choices, a KU 5200 with a grab it

or a Dana Design Terraplane or Astralplane.

Thinking of walking in and having it on my pack in the dark or pre hunting, when hunting, hope to have it in my hands the whole time.

I bought one of these, http://www.cabelas.com/product/Cabelas-Bow-Carrier-Sling/1587543.uts?searchPath=%2Fbrowse.cmd%3FcategoryId% 3D734095080%26CQ_search%3Dbow%2Bsling

but not sure if it's the best way to carry it in.

Thanks for any help or tips for my first archery backpack hunt

With the bow sling I had, which was attached to the top and bottom of the riser, (webbing and buckles cobbled together after looking at another Cabela's bow sling that I'm not sure if they still sell...) I put it on first, then the pack on over it. When I had mine, I had a cam lock buckle that I could open to set the bow down. The sling actually, if set up right, helped me to steady my shot...

We used a grab it on the bottom of my partner's DD longbed pack last year to carry his bow in. The bottom cam slipped into the grab it and we used a single strap from side to side to hold the top part of the bow.

I've done the same thing with my duplex and AMR.

After seeing a buddy use his reckoning bag to carry his bow in I'm planning to sew my own "bottom cam" strap and use a single strap up top.

I use this when I am going to be in areas I might want to have my hands free:

Strap it to my Pack with compression Straps is how I carry mine in.

Thats pretty slick! Think I am going to see if I can come up with a way to do the same with a QD Flush cup arangement.
