View Full Version : 2015 Granddaddy Rendezvous

Hello friends, the annual Colorado Spring Rendezvous will run from May 14 through May 17 this year in the "new" location in lovely South Park Colorado. (This will be something like the fourth year in that spot, but it's still the "new" one to most of us old-timers.)
I think this is the twelfth Gathering...correct me if I'm wrong you Regulars. The theme is a face-to-face gathering for Message Board friends in spectacular country. There will be much feasting--game recipes abound-- much shooting and plenty of fine night-time conversation around the stove in the big 24 man tipi.

If you have any questions lay them out right here; veterans will respond in depth I'm sure.

Contact angie@kifaru.net and Register if you wish to attend. She will send you details on getting there and what to be sure and bring along. Give her your name and address and phone number; also. how many folks you will bring in your party.

Note: Sarah and I are faced with an obligation we cannot avoid at the same time as this year's Rendezvous; the upshot is that I will be unable to attend. My first (and I sincerely hope only) no-show. But I wish the rest of you Rendezvouers the best Show ever! I want to hear all about it!

CORRECTION: My lovely daughter Ali just pointed out to me that mine and Sarah's commitment is the NEXT weekend...ergo, I WILL BE ATTENDING THE RENDEZVOUS!!!

Sorry about that folks...it ain't easy being an airhead inventor and geezer. So, SEE YOU THERE! Yahoo.

I'm a new Kifaru owner and I'm very interested in attending. What type of weather should I expect? Will there be enough wood accesabble for everyone's stoves? Is there nearby water sources? Sorry lol, I'm new

Patrick

Welcome NH Camper.

Re weather it can often be cold and snowy. Bring winter garb just in case. It can also be delightfully warm and sunny, but err on the winter side. It is usually windy by mid day so throw in a wind breaker. Bottom line: bring layers to account for widely variable conditions.

Re wood resources there will be plenty. Very few people use our site.

As for water you'll need to bring it in...there is no surface water on-site. It's not a problem because the site can be driven to. Four wheel drive is highly recommended for most years.

I am a new member to the Kifaru forum. I bought a Marauder and Pointman about 7 years ago. I guess that makes them gen 1. I never used them
but just now loaded gear into them and look forward to the meet. I just bought a E&E for a EDC bag. I live in South Park about 10 miles from the site. ( as the crow flies). Besides being a gear junkie, I am into ham radio (licensed 1971). Any other hams out there in the forum?

Planning on bringing Kimber for her 4th Rondy this year. May be just her and I again, trying to convince Minda that we can keep the 2 year old warm all night! Kimber wants to shoot some more guns, have some more fun, and "hang out with those cool people with the tent on their trailer that made the s'mores last year.
I forget names, but hope they'll come back down from Ft. Fun!

Our attendance at the rondy is questionable again this year. My oldest boy decided to have a little four wheeler wreck a couple of weeks ago and broke his knee cap into three pieces. With three screws and a bunch of wire they managed to get it back together. He wont be off his crutches till end of May. Never thought I'd be having to give a 18 yr old a bath again and waiting on him hand and foot but here I am. Hopefully it will work out but right now its not looking promising.

I've got a sled with front & rear handles and a bicycle wheel underneath, perfect for spring hanging out, I think I could rig a shooting rest for him on it...

Sure thing Patrick. His mom went to VA Tech and she was always angling for a way to go back and visit, and she finally got the last one to bite.

Should be a great trip, we're having a celebration back in my hometown with about 50 friends afterward. That's another thing his mom has been angling for, any excuse to throw a party.

My other half, Jackie, has decided to downsize her everyday carry weapon. She has fondled several, and decided on either the S-W M&P Shield in 9 or the Ruger LC9, but decided to shoot both before purchase. If anyone has either of these and would allow her to pop a few of our primers, she would appreciate the time behind the sights.

We will miss seeing the regulars attendees, but get well Bill and enjoy VA Smokepole.

Can't wait to enjoy the jamming Mojo and others.
Thanks

Dangit Bill, I was hoping to see you there and chatting with you on the firing line, both about learning my .300 Win and about life in general. Since we talked, (about health stuff at the last rondy) I've started synthroid, so I'm anxious to hear how you're doing. Will miss you on the firing line, hope you mend well!!

It's always cool to see gear and the kit that other folks are using, but being able to put a name to face and get to talk to everyone was beyond awesome. Great group of folks, I am glad I went and grateful to meet such humble and personable folks.

Was wondering what happened, I sent you a txt to the cell # I have for you... I forgot a spoon for the winter rondy & while whittling a spoon sliced my left palm/pinkie. Luckily, I was in the 24 man with several other intoxicated fellows that didn't notice the blood in the snow or me tying a bandana around it. Probably could've used a few stitches, but, loading the pulk to ski to the car, didn't happen. :-)

Saturday turned into a late night, Mojo Slim did a great job entertaining. I reluctantly was pressed into playing the coffee pot....

Anyway, scars are a lot like tattoos: hopefully have a good story, and later in life, with the benefit of hindsight, you might not repeat...

Can someone tell me about these shooting sticks?

Jon S
05-19-2015, 08:07 PM
KMassaro had those sticks, they reportedly were very stable and looked pretty good. Bungee pulls them together adding stability sort of pinching the rifle front to back.
Sorry I missed the music session Friday night, had harps but never got up to the music tipi, will not let that happen again!

I had a blast even without my 4.5 year old. Sad she got sick, but life happens. I offered some chairs to folks on Friday night and someone grabbed my blue lowback REI stowaway chair. I left without it not seeing it when I left. It belongs to the wifey, so if anyone has it, please shoot me a pm or let me know here and I can come get it.
Looks like this, but may be slightly different as it is a year or two old. Thanks a bunch.

Here are the shooting sticks, folks. They were pretty stable for me, but I didn't quite know where the 22-250 was holding. With the 270, where I know exactly what it does, clanging the 400 yd gong was pretty easy.

Had a great time at the Spring Rondy this year. Really glad I made it out.

Big John: Friday night's jam was completely impromptu. I was thinking of turning in early (earlier than usual) on Friday night to rest up for Saturday night. Spontaneous jam ensues and I stay up till about 4:45a instead! Next time, if you hear the guitar, come on over with your harps :) Tom was jamming on a Large Box stove with some chopsticks! I think Rex wandered over around 2:00a and along with Patrick, contributed with some shaker percussion

Saturday night's jam was a bit less intimate and I want to give a shout out to robcollins for holding it down on the percussion. Cleve and as always, Patrick had the egg-shakers locked in. The Offroute Gear crew had some welcome encouragement, while also threatening to banish me from the tent. Freerange!

Also, I lost a red Leatherman Squirt (Mini multi-tool/pliers) in the 24 man sometime Saturday night. If anyone knows where it is, give me a holler.

This year's rondy had the most diverse weather than any of the other 3 or 4 I've been to. We had sun, wind, grapple, snow, rain, thunder and lightning in a somewhat cyclical pattern all weekend. Really made for a good test of the upper and lower limits of some of my clothing.

I didn't take many pics, but here are some:

One more request, please check your stuff and see if you have it or check with your friends that came. It's a $45 chair that the not so tall wife loves.
Thanks
