Hello All,
Any ideas on ECR 2015 dates yet? I'll most certainly be coming if the dates don't clash with prior commitments. I'm only open for the first two weekends in February. Hope to see you all there!

Hey William! Not sure if the date has been picked, but I think Ken was trying to make it the same week each year. Good to see you here in Kifaru Land :) Dave

To All-

This year there is going to be a change in venue. I am looking for a spot nearby on State Land that has adequate parking. Be advised that this will likely be a manpower only event with regards to getting all of the gear to the site. Be prepared to sled all of your equipment in as its very likely, depending on where we go, that I will not be able to utilize a snowmachine to assist it the transportation.

stand by for the new location...

Hi, New around these parts... I just purchased a few things from some members. Jon was telling me that I should come over to this thread and see when the meet up is going to take place. I would love to think I could make it given the date. Could be Dad's personal vacation. I really would like to setup my new used tent w/ stove and Supertarp all pulled in with my sled. Id have to drive from Duluth, MN (or fly if I could get my gear with me or shipped I suppose).

Would love to share a good Odell's Mercenary Beer with you all.

Better shine up the little red wagon!

Most of the area has snow 6-12" so sleds should be a go.

Ken, I know a place on state land by Tupper if your still looking for a location.

Checked with Ken last night and he mentioned that he was waiting for word from the forest ranger, and that they're predicting another foot of snow possibly.

Ken
02-01-2015, 07:33 AM
Sorry for the delay fellas...I just got off the phone with the Forest Ranger.

Here's the UTM cords for the new location. It isn't very far from the original so there is no significant change in travel plans for everyone. The new location is about three miles east of the Muga Pines entrance on the same road.

Here ya go...plug and play!

Parking/gate:

18 580552
4782050

Overflow parking if need be:

18 580400
4782020

Rondy location:

18 581170
4782210

Please take a minute and look up the regs for camping on state land. Basically we need to camp 150 from water and we cannot cut or damage any live vegetation. Both are non issues with our new location. We will have plenty of room to set-up and dead and down firewood should be everywhere. Be sure to have all of the proper tools on hand...which usually is a non issue with this group.

As far as guns go...basically no evil black guns and pistols are a no-no unless already permitted via NYS laws. I don't recall if any of you have a NYS permit or not but I'd probably be the only one allowed to posses a pistol. No biggie as far as I can see with the guns you all normally bring.

Thanks for the patience...I'm looking forward to seeing everyone!

oh..yeah...and as far as snow goes...IF...and its a big IF...we get this storm tonight like they say we will, it will be an SST event. I don't think we will have enough snow for the long pins but I'm thinking the shorties will work just fine. Be prepared to dig down to the ground if need be, but I think the SST pins will be in order IF we get this storm. They are calling for a foot or so. Up there we tend to get the snow so I'm hoping that we will have enough to just stomp down with snowshoes.

Ralph
02-01-2015, 08:12 AM
I won't make it this year. I'm doing okay and if we were still at the camp would likely be up there, but walking in the snow for any distance is a no-go. I'd be stopping every few yards to catch my breath. I'll really miss you guys - so be sure to take pictures.

Robbie

The new location is about three miles east of the Muga Pines entrance on the same road.
When I plotted it on Google Earth, I came up with two miles east of the old trail head (across from the church).

I'm just going to follow the road until I see a vehicle I recognize and then follow the snow shoe tracks in!

This looks promising:

Thanks brother. I am packing up right now. Just got my truck back from the mechanic and it seems to be running good now. Are we going to need snow pegs? For a change of pace will take the Large Kifaru stove and 6-man. Was considering the 4-man with liner and DIY given the low expected temps but the large in a 6-man seemed kinda toasty. Anyone else going up on Wednesday?

I am headed out Wednesday and should be at the ECR site mid-later afternoon if all goes as planned. Currently packing up this evening and debating whether I will live in a Paratipi with a small stove or the 6 man tipi and large stove, I am leaning towards the 6 man as it is so luxurious with one man and I also don't have to pack it in.
Ken: Is it possible for you to mark the two parking areas with some type of coloured streamers for primary and secondary parking sites? (Only if you are passing by the area).

Mr. Maple Leaf. You bringing in the Arctic weather again? :)

Hope too! Need it good and cold although I wouldn't want to drive in on the I-90 again through a snow storm like last year.

Well, things have gone south around this household and I won't be traveling to the ECR. I hate missing another one, but circumstances have drastically changed overnight. My wife, Nancy, has been having a pain in her lower, right, lung area for the last week. We thought it might just be a rib out of place, but it came back last night and we are very concerned. We'll be heading out to hospital for further testing today. I'll be staying close to home and close to my sweetheart. Keep her in your prayers and thoughts. Hope you have a great weekend. I'll look for the photo report and also keep you informed on my wife's condition. God bless!

ECR-ites,
The docs did an x-ray and found a benign tumor (angionylipoma) in my wife's kidney. Lots of pain, but not the big "C." We feel so relieved, but still concerned with some follow-up tests for lung involvement. Not to worry though -- prayer is a powerful thing. Thank you all for your prayers and concern.
