View Full Version : Colorado Shiras Cow

After 11 years of putting in, finally got my cow moose tag this year. This leaves only a mountain lion to get everything Colorado has to offer(not counting desert sheep). Hate to guess a field weight, but looked pretty large to me standing over it. Day time temps were going to upper 70s so not trying to get my ***y on while posing with the Timberline2, just trying to avoid heat stroke:) Going to have to fry moose steaks in some bear lard to say I have done it now. Tenderloin steaks going on grill in an hour, looking forward to this a lot. Couple of pics and yes a full hind quarter will fit in a Timberline2 bag. Love the T2 and the Kifaru meat bags.

Cool man! Good job filling your Moose tag, any info about the rifle and bullet?

Nice work Kurt, glad you were able to connect and make it back to tell about it :)
We saw 4 moose on our drive back down the peak to peak highway today. A beast of a bull, a good sized cow, one calf, probably a year and 1/2, then one other in the trees, looked like another calf.
Great scene indeed, it was one of the biggest bulls I think we'll ever see in Colorado.

Nice moose, I would love the chance to hunt one of those. Congratulations.

Bulls are cool, but will say those steaks just now were quite tasty. She'll eat well and now that freezer is full, bull elk tag only gets punched if a toad walks out.

Congrats Kurt, what unit?? I have about 12 years in now, can't wait.

That was unit 6, RFW Silver Spur Ranch. Didn't see a lot of big bulls in there, actually none, but there was some good mature ones though. I had 10 points and there were 60 folks going for 2 cow tags. Kind of thinking I'll start putting in again for it as it was something different and as mentioned, the first batch of grilled steaks was quite good.

Had a friend who wanted the hide tanned so skinned that out carefully and dropping it off this week for tanning. No regrets on not going for the bull on this one. Resharpening knives and trying to maintain some condiitioning, rifle elk looms:)

Excellent! You can give me a step by step account if we run into each other at another TRidge game this year. ;)
