I am writing an article about communications devices for use in the backcountry, things like PRBs, SPOT, satellite phones, and so on. I wanted to see what SAR professionals recommend people use and what they recommend people don't use. Is anyone here a member of a SAR unit and willing to talk about this topic. I will call you or we can do it via email.

I'm a trained FEMA USAR technician... (Urban SAR)....

I'd suggest you contact your local State Police as a starting point... in many states, it is the State Police that coordinate this operation.

The National Parks Service also runs a SAR school in northern Arizona under the acronym NSARA (National Search and Rescue Academy). The contact point several years back was:

- NSARA coordinator, Ken Phillips, NPS Branch Chief of Search & Rescue, at ken_phillips@nps.gov
