What do you consider the maximum range for your short barrled 358's? Trying to decide whether to make a 358 barrel for my little .308. My big gun now is a customized marlin 45-70 there is something about a 440 grain wfn at 1850fps that I like. Perhaps it is the fact that it hits like freight train out to about 200-225 yds. I thought that I might be able to get a little more range out of the 358, but I have no knowledge or expierence with the little big bore. thanks for any comments that you think would benefit my next project. Thanks Sam

Sam--

With 225gr. handloads you should hit hard out to about 300yds. I get just shy of 2600fps with that load. Thing is, it's not like lobbing a brick. Pretty flat shooting in comparison to that wonderful ol' 45-70.
