Do the moon phases have any effect on Caribou like it does Whitetail Deer? If so, which is the prime phase to hunt for Caribou? I am contemplating a second hunt in Quebec and I want to go when the caribou have shed their velvet and possibly use the phases to zero in on a time slot. Does anyone have any thoughts on this topic?

Dennis ...it is not so much the moon phase ,as it is the weather. Caribou and black flies don't mix. When it get cold enough to kill the flies it will be time for caribou to move . If you have your heart set on a pair of hard horns go anywhere from the end of the second week of sept. on. Just be aware that the closer you get to mid oct. you get the more you run the chance of the meat being a little tart if you know what I mean. I personally prefer the last week of sept or the first week of oct.

Thanks for the info Dean. You wouldnt be interested in going on a hunt in 2004 with Club Chambeaux would you ( European Plan )? I went last year and had a BLAST. I LOVE IT UP THERE ON THE TUNDRA, especially flying in the Beaver (my first time for both Caribou and Beaver). It would be good to have a group of six hunters , that way we would get a "cabin" to ourselves and there are usually two cabins at the Euro plan camps. The web address is http://www.clubchambeaux.com (http://www.clubchambeaux.com,), check it out. They back-up what they say. It was a first rate operation, I felt it was worth the money. /images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif

A caribou hunt in Quebec or Labrador has long been on my list of dream hunts. I have checked out Club Chambeaux and many others and thought it was a pretty good deal. What was the hunting like? Did you guide yourself or did you have the services of a guide?

It is a lot of money and a fair bit of time away from the family, but if you are putting together a group for 2004 let me know and I will talk to my "accountant". Heck, I'd even sell some of my guns to get away on this hunt!

Best Regards
