...What if, instead of buying a para-tarp for an emergency bivi, one was to use a para-tipi, minus the pegs, poles and mosquito netting...wouldn't the pack size and weight be close to that of the para-tarp?...just wondering out-loud...also would the para-tipi (in this mode) fit in the 1000 cu in backpouch on my Spikecamp?

Ken, these are very, very good questions. We'll do some weighing and stuffing tomorrow and let you know. One thing: ski poles probably won't extend far enough to be able to substitute for the ParaTipi front pole, but we'll find out how shy they are (IF they are).

ParaTipi w/out poles or pegs or netting is 1 lb. 12 1/2 oz. And my Leki trekking poles do extend far enough to function as the front pole. The newest paraTipis fit inside both the Hunting and the Military Backpouches even WITH all their poles and pegs and such. Without that stuff I doubt the para would take up more than half the volume, if that.
