Just about when I decided to rebore and chamber my Custom Remington Model 600 from .308 to .358 Win. , Remington re-introduces the old .350 Rem. mag. Why would they do this instead of necking up the new .300 short mag. to .358? Anyway, does anyone have chronograph info on 250 grain bullets vel. in the 18 1/2 barrel with the .358 win. vs. the .350 mag. Seems with the longer heavy bullet seated deep into the case, the fatter case has the edge in max performance with the 18 1/2" barrel. I am hunting in Elk country where we no longer know where US Fish and Wildlife Service has re-introduced the Grizzly. And, would also like to take this lightweight to Alaska for moose instead of one of my .375 9#+ Mausers. Also, need a recommendation for a gunsmith that can re-machine the 600 bolt face and do a M-16 extractor correctly. /images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/confused.gif

The best speed I ever produced in my 600/350 Rem. Mag. was 2425fps. with the 250's. I get 2360fps with a 20 1/2" bbl. with my .358. You should be able to get 2300fps with an 18 1/2" bbl--plenty fast enough to get the job done. Use 2015BR or IMR 4198 powders. Just for the record, 225gr. Sierras will fetch 2550fps in my gun with 4198, and is a superb elk-slaying cartridge.
