I thought I would post the question on the hunting side of the Forum. PLEASE POST THERE. Curious to see what the guys out in the field are using.

I am by no means a knife expert, so take EVERYTHING I say with a grain of salt.

I like the Camillus BK71 (the tan version of the OD BK7) for my backcountry jaunts. They're cheap (less than $45 from gunshows and eBay), heavy, and stout. I like a back country knife to have some heft so I can hack with it. The sheath is definately servicable, although one could certainly improve on it.

I carry it several different ways, each having pros and cons:
Lashed to the side of my pack, blade up, strong side.
Dropped from the belt, weak side.
Inserted into a HSGI thigh rig, weak side.

I typically carry several other, smaller knives as well. A multitool in my pocket, a folder in my survival kit, and a small pen knife.

I leave the Emerson Karambit that you sold me last month at home when out and about. /images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif

Ok, I'm a little slow, so I copied my post on the other forum. Duh.
