Which trailhead you going in from and are you hunting elk or deer, or both?

Thanks Ed T...Just got back. Went in from the NF Blackfoot TH. Did a loop up the East fork NF Blackfoot up over the ridge top and back over to the NF Blackfoot. Saw a few elk opening day along with LOTS of HUNTERS!! They out numbered the elk we saw by many! Was crazy to ride for two days and feel like we were camping at a campground. 22 hunters we were told all in the same upper remote drainage. Was beautiful. We did see a mama griz and babys on the ridge top we crossed over with our stock. Seems there are alot of hunters/outfitters and not so much elk??? Is gorgeous country though.

Hi Dan, Were you by chance in a tipi just off the main trail? I think we may have been in the same spot.

Anywhere near the mainline trails from the North Fork or Indian Meadows is going to be pretty close to camping out at Walmart, especially the 1st week. The Scapegoat has some amazing country but lots of hunters/game.
