As a reminder, the second NW Winter Rondy of the season is next weekend March 5th - 7th. There just isn't enough snow in the Ochocos, so same bat time, same bat place in the Cascades. I've updated the private page with instructions and directions on it a tad, mainly to talk about snow conditions. I'm also emailing or PMing the address of that page to everybody who I know or think is coming. If you're planning on coming and haven't received the instruction page by the end of today, drop me a PM. You might also chime in on this thread for a roll call.

We are having a baby next monday at noon so I should probably stay home that weekend. I love the pics you guys posted and only ask that you post a lot more this time. I will get to a Rhondy eventually. Maybe a flyfishing Rhondy on the upper Deschutes in June? Maybe down at Mecca Flats? I know the area well since I used to live in Madras and worked for Deschutes River Outfitters.

I've lined up one of the new digital SLR's that shoots video for the weekend, so I am going to try and document the trip with stills and video

Oh my... Is this a good or a bad thing?

It is a very good thing.I am not really sure how crowded downtown gets.I have never really been down there during rondy. I have only been down in the port area when they ran the race cars.I can upgrade me to yes status.

Stopping off in pdx on the way home to see my son...

Great weather greater people. The Hill People do rondies right. Really enjoyed meeting them and Snakey and Badger and Jason and Christian. When's the summer rondy?

I made it home by 3:30pm and started the gear drying ritual. I only took a few photos, and none can rival Badger's, so I'll just sit tight and wait.

I had a great time as usual, with good conversation, idea sharing, and gear comparisons. I cut my own participation time a few hours short while taking the long way to camp, but pain is a powerful teacher! The weather was absolutely perfect, and our camp was intruder-free this time. I really appreciate the time and effort the Hills put into the preparation of the site, and can't wait for the next Winter Rondy(s)---------and hopefully the summer one too.

Thanks to all who attended, and David in OR for driving so far. Snow conditions were basically spring conditions. Still plenty deep though. Weather was sunny with lows in the 20s and highs in the 40s.

I'll post some pics. Resolution is pretty crappy because I resized using the function built into Outlook. None of them were spectacular shots to begin with, so....

Snakey, SuperBadger, and I went for a really fun ski tour on Saturday. Unfortunately the picture of Badger on his knees face planted in the snow didn't turn out. We crossed a frozen meadow. Wanderlustr, I was able to skate for about 20 yards, but the snow wasn't quite frozen enough to make it worthwhile so I gave it up :D

And finally, a notorious bit of camp comfort. It's a little sad because there is really no mystery going forward about what I'll come up with next for the winter rondy latrine. The view might change, but the accomodations will basically be the same:

That bit of camp comfort was missing from the CO winter Rondy, but I assure you, will be there for the next one.
Looks pleasant and way better than leaning on trees.
3/4" plywood?

The latrine was brilliant. I think it was Jason who suggested the only possible improvement: the addition of a bomb sight.

Very nice.
Looks like a good time - no shooting pic's but almost everyone is smiling! :)

Jon, that's 1" plywood I had a piece of in the garage. Not sure where it came from, but it met the sturdy criteria.

There was some .22lr shooting that took place. No ammo penetration testing. Just didn't get around to it, which was a shame because Jason brought a chrony along to verify velocities. It didn't even get broken out. Now that I think about it, how do we know for sure that he packed one in?

Jason

I sure enough brought my chrono, and if I hadn't taken the scenic tour I'd have been in camp soon enough to break it out. I DID show Scot and David my Bisley, even though it didn't get used either.

Evan great pictures of a grand time. All of the effort put in was much appreciated. Weather and area were wonderful. Even without the bomb sight the "trapeze" was stellar as was the view while using it. I had a great time and should have recorded all of the observations on gear and guns as there was just too much good stuff to remember it all. It was great to see new faces and connect with the old ones again. It amazed me how much I could get on my puny sled and still move and the larger sleds carried a massive amount of comfort into the back country. Loads of fun hope to go next year.

If anyone ended up with a spare 22/45 magazine I am missing one.
