Here's a quick report on the youth pheasant hunt last weekend, that I took my boys out on. The 12 and 10 year olds were hunting and the 8 yr old was following and enjoying the show. Mom was photographer and I was guide.

Start of the morning...

My 12 yr old with his 20 ga Rossi single shot and Millie, one of our labs

My 10 yr old staying in line with dad and his brother...

Beautiful area and not very crowded...

My 8 yr old out having a blast with us

After Millie got hot working an area of blackberry bushes, a rooster and a hen busted out of the other side. My 10 yr old took aim at the rooster and folded him cleanly with his one shot! Ahhh...success.

Millie getting a much deserved drink of water

A short time later, my 12 yr caught another rooster trying to escape up to his right and made a great shot.

Oh yeah!

Ahhh, the satisfaction of a weighted vest....

Lots of great area for the boys to hunt

On the way back to the truck

A great day...

One definitely for the memory books...

Looks like an amazing hunt with your boys and wife. Good on ya' for gettin' em out in the field. Looks like they know how to handle those shotguns as well.

Looks like some state land by Samish Island? If so not far from my backyard. Good for you and the family for a great day in the field.

Looks like a sweet hunt. Tell me about those single shot shotguns. I need to get a basic shotgun.

Nicely done. They can already out shoot this old man it seems. Great photo work as well.

That is an outstanding story. Really makes me wish I was 12 again (or even had a 12 year old again). You have a charmed life.

Dang your boys are having a banner late summer-early fall. I am a bit jealous

As was stated, I am having a charmed life. Being able to take my kids hunting and fishing and raise them to be ethical outdoorsmen is a dream come true. I never had that as a kid myself. Growing up I became involved in bird hunting around 13 yrs old and had to find older men to take me and my lab out hunting. When I started having boys, I decided I'd better start learning how to hunt big game and flyfish too, so I'd be able to teach my sons from my own experience, instead of having to learn from magazines and videos or on their own, like I did. My passion for all things hunting and fishing have grown over the years and now I get to share all that with my boys and my wife (she started bird hunting and flyfishing just last year).

Yes, Scot they have had quite a banner summer/fall so far. :)

I am a bit worried about how good of shots they are. I wonder if I'll ever get to shoot another bird with them around! Got to love those single shots for teaching patience and accuracy.

Christianh - the guns they have are the Rossi youth model trifectas. They come with 3 barrels....22 LR, .243 rifle, and 20 ga shotgun. Very simple guns, but quite effective. They do come in adult sizes and come in different calibers as well. The boys bought their own guns and they were about $250.

Nothing like watching a good bird dog in action! Your kids will remember these good times forever. They are lucky!

Those Rossi's are a sweet package!

Nice post!
