I acquired some cougar meat from my grandpa from a self defense kill(was 5 feet from him when shot but thats another story). I know i have heard its good eating but i was wondering if anyone has tried it and if so advice on how to cook it or recipes.

Now here's a great thread. I've always heard it was good too, but have never eaten any. I'm going to guess the guy with the story about the lion that was "treed" on the TV antenna of the cotopaxi store is going to have something to offer here. How about it Don?

I'd like to hear the story of the kill, too.

I ate some in Idaho many moons ago. It was fried and I thought it was very good (course I like anything fried). Kinda like chicken (sorry I couldn't resist). If I were to cook it that is the way I would try it first.

I ate some cougar that was smoked in large "roast" sized pieces. It was VERY good. I'm not sure how else it can be prepared, but I'd think any pork or rabbit recipe would turn out well. Any cats I harvest will be smoked though.

Cook it on a grill. Treat it like a pork chop. Awesome cougar is so tasty.

Salt pepper and garlic, fried in hot olive oil. Gas heat with a wok is best, cast iron works too. Or on the grill or over a camp fire. Add basil and/or some red pepper to kick it up a notch. Haven't had a game animal yet that didnt work with this. Including black bear. Lion shoud work too ... Let us know.

I pan fried some chops that came out pretty good. Tasted more like pork to me. The cut wasn't the greatest and was stringy, but tasty meat.

Ya Don, give it up. We know that there has to be a story on cooking all those cats you kilt or helped get kilt.

Also glad to hear that your Grandpa wasn't dealing with a lynx!:D

Make cat tail soup.

But add actual cat tail.
