Many years ago a neighbor who had a remote, very rustic cabin in the Colorado Front Range not far from Blackhawk/Central City (way before casinos) came in one spring to open up the place and found a note from some hunters who told a tale of being chased by a pack of feral dogs. They'd shot a couple in defense but that didn't deter the rest and they ended up shooting off the padlock and holing up in the cabin for a couple days. They also left their names and phone numbers in case he had further concern, had eaten some canned goods and left a $20 bill under the lock w/ the hole through it. We kept an extra eye open on stray dogs in the vacinity for years after that, with shoot on sight orders.

We have problems with feral dogs where I live. They used to run away, but lately there are some pretty aggressive pitbulls and pitbull crosses around. Two years ago I shot one that was coming toward me growling with its' hackles raised. That will get your heart started.

We have always problems w/ Feral dogs here, and it has gotten worse. People buy the guard dogs, don't treat or train them right, then dump them out in the country because they get scared and are too weak/lazy/cheap to get it trained or put down. They are a dangerous mix of fearful and fearless.
