I have been making Sawtooth's recipe for venison chili on a regular basis with a few minor changes (ground and cubed venison, and 6 slices of crumbled crispy fried bacon which was a suggestion from another Kifaru member, Kevin?). Everyone who has tasted it, loves it.

One of my friends who is a single dad wanted to have an entry in his son's school chili cook-off, which is also a fund raiser. I gave him Sawtooth's recipe and he won first place out of 25 entries.
I can't find my photo of the trophy but kudos to Sawtooth.

Here's the recipe:

1 lb. ground venison
1 chopped yellow onion
1 15 oz. can kidney beans
1 15 oz. can pinto beans
1 can Ro-Tel (mild, medium, spicy...you choose)
1 15 oz. can tomato sauce
8 oz. water
1 small can green chilis, chopped or diced
1 tbsp. chili powder
1 tsp. chipotle seasoning
1/2 tsp. Worcestershire Sauce
1/2 tsp. course ground black pepper

Sprinkle each of cumin and garlic powder

Combine all ingredients, minus meat and onions, in a stew pot or crock pot. Turn on low heat or low setting on crock pot.

Brown meat and onions.

Add meat and onions to stew pot or crock pot. Simmer on low heat for one hour in stew pot, or leave in the crock pot on low heat for 4-6 hours.

Well, thank you, sir! If you want a little different taste, try putting 2 tablespoons of molasses in it. That and the bacon might just combine to put a wonderful new spin on it. I'm glad you liked it. It's about an every-other-week event at our place.

Just made a batch tonight, I only had some ground wild pork left so I used that in place of venison. On my second bowl now.. great recipe thanks for sharing
