View Full Version : Unemployment Sale for Pal: Boots, BIG Bag, Pack

01-12-2009, 08:54 PM
The company my buddy worked for just folded so he is enjoying some quality time figuring out his future. In the mean time, he is cleaning out his closet of unneeded gear and has asked me to help him unload things. This is a start, there may be more to come.

(Please note that although not pictured, the Danners do come with laces.)

The first pair are Danner High Country 8" 1000 gram Thinsulate, Gore-Tex, full grain leather with air bob soles. They are scuffed up a bit and could use a coat of Obenauf's but I know he has very few miles on them. They are 11.5 D. I have a fairly wide forefoot so these feel a bit snug for me width wise up front but the length is not bad. I normally wear a 12D. He'd like to get $65 shipped.

The second pair are Danner Fantails. They are 11.5 EE camo cordura boots and aren't marked Gore-tex nor insulated so I think they are more warm weather type hunting boots. They are in good shape and the Vibram soles are like new. Dark spots are just wet from cleaning them off. On me, they are definitely wider but again the length seems like plenty on my feet. He'd like to get $45 shipped for these.

Finally he has a pair of NIB Trango Trek GTX hiking boots that are Euro sized 45.5, say 12 on the box and 12.5 on the tongue. I tried them on and they fit me fine. He'd like $90 shipped for those.

The North Face Goliath Long Sleeping Bag Long: Hardly used and made for the big boys. For fellows -- ladies too I guess -- up to 6' 8". $95 shipped.

Dwight Schuh Hunting Pack: Not sure which camo pattern. About five years old but lightly used and in good shape. $75 plus shipping.

Pack is marked MOB which probably stands for Mossy Oak Breakup. For those unfamiliar with this pack, it goes several ways. You can use the pack frame alone, the ruck alone, the fanny pack alone, the ruck on the frame, the fanny pack on the frame or both the ruck and fanny pack on the frame. Probably not a good choice if you have trouble making up your mind but great if you need options.

What is the temerature rating on the sleeping bag?

01-14-2009, 08:37 AM
It is 0 but it just sold. Sorry! I don't think it would have been a zero for you though. You wouldn't have filled it up enough. It is HUGE.

I use a goliath, what are you trying to say?

I think he's calling me a twig and you full size. ;)

Edit: Glad you got it sold for your buddy.

I agree Scott. There's no way you'd need a long. The NERVE!

01-14-2009, 04:03 PM
The "standard" Goliath is designed for those up to 6' 4". The long is for those up to 6' 8". They are both on the shall we say, girth enhanced side for a mummy bag. I've met Westy and while relatively tall, he is just not man enough for a Goliath Long unless he's looking for a double bag and dating a member of the Russian women's basketball team. I guess I shouldn't have assumed he meant it for solo use. ;)

Scothill, I figure you use a Goliath just so you can keep all your lever actions warm.

Okay I will admit I didn't see the long part and I was about to buy the bag when I decided not to as mine is virtually brand new in the scheme of things. I will say that although I don't like the extra lb over Evan's snowshoe I sure love the room. If you are the big man I fully endorse the goliath it actually has enough room to zip up and move around in. Gives a whole new meaning to the term mummy bag for me. If you are just a little feller then this bag is not for you....... Although since it already sold I guess my endorsement doesn't really help.

What kind of Philistine would need a mummy bag anyway? As an aside, just about every depiction I've seen of Goliath shows him wearing a kilt... Also, y'all best steer clear of small kids with slingshots...

01-15-2009, 04:14 PM
I always though that adult mummy bags were supposed to fit.....well like a mummy. I didn't know you where supposed to actually have room to move around in it and not have it be very fitted. With the goliath I do. It was a revilation.

Evan is the one rocking the kilt not me, and I have to say I am a bit jealous of it. Luckily, my nieces don't have any sling shots yet, but the middle one did shoot me in the forehead with a rubberband thrower thing from about 2 feet away awhile back. :(

Given Evans' avatar and all, I'll try to refrain from making any references to sasquatches under skir... er... kilts.

01-15-2009, 08:34 PM
Only here could we combine biblical characters, skirts, kilts, Sasquatch and little girls shooting rubberbands at a Sasquatch with kilt envy who loves his Goliath. Guess that's why I like this place so much.

New addition:

Woolrich Wool Hunting Shirt: XXL, dark olive in color. Has double material in the right shoulder as sort of a shooting pad with crossed stitching and one pocket on left. Another barely used item. I'll try to get the dog hairs off for you unless the buyer wants them as added insulation/camoflage. Pics to come. $25 shipped.

01-16-2009, 01:12 PM
I actually managed to get pictures of a kilted sasquatch last elk season. However, like all TRUE AUTHENTIC sasquatch pictures they are small dark and blurry. (click on the pic to make it bigger)

01-16-2009, 01:46 PM
I've tried the "I know it looks small and blurry but it gets bigger if you just click on it" line before -- not real effective.

Any way, the shirt is sold pending funds. If someone would step up and buy this other stuff, we could get a proper "Sasquatch in Kilts? Myth or Reality?" thread going. scothill's pics are an excellent start.

Oh and this is mine, but rather than start another thread, here you go. It's sort of related as it is a "big and tall" item and would go great with a kilt.

5.11 Monterrey Jacket XL Black w/brown suede collar: It is an XL but way too big for me (6', 200 lbs., 46" chest). I could hide several handguns around the waist with this thing if I wanted to and perhaps a brace of lever guns. Brand new (Christmas gift), return policy sucks. $45 shipped.

Scott, I'd say you got off pretty lucky. Once your nieces figure out that rubber bands make a better propellant than projectile, and start reloading with FGJs (Full Granite Jackets), the mighty giant had best be wearing some quality headgear.

01-16-2009, 10:11 PM
rubber bands is a bit of a misnomber. It is a gun that I got a bunch of years ago and the rubber bands are actually contoured for flight like an air foil and pretty dang hard rubber. They shoot out about 20' and I can tell you from the distance in question it rang my bell a bit. I was not a happy camper.

I guess I do have a story about my sister and escalation of force as a result of my use of a sling shot...........

01-17-2009, 07:54 AM
Let's hear it. This is a good place, since the boots don't seem to be drawing much interest. The story will gice CCH some more time to work on his marketing.........
