A needlesmith just preveiwed a very good idea that leads me to further evolution on the theme. What I am looking for now
1) can I get 100 D Cordura in 72"+ width?
2) Where is a good suplier for coated Cordura?
3) Anyone out there that can sew a pretty simple piece for me? - basically a rectangle Cordura sleeping bag with 3 loops of webbing.
Thanks,
Bill

I suspect the 72" width might be difficult.
I have been looking at various materials over the past few months and I suspect the standard width is 60".

rickyrichards.com.au sell auscam cordura, 1000D in 171cm widths, which is I think about 67".

Try asking in the lightfighter.net forums, they have a "roll your own" mesage board.

most rolled fabrics are less than 72".... why couldn't you just use whatever width is available and use 2+ yards of it... if you needed something that is more than 72" in 2 directions you'll likely need to get two pieces sewn together. HTH.

I was afraid of that- the item I want will result in a good deal of waste(& a seam) by using narrower cloth but that is what it is... Thanks anyway.

1000D cordura is available from a number of suppliers:

<a href="http://www.ahh.com" target="_blank">http://www.ahh.com (http://www.ahh.com)</a>
<a href="http://www.seattlefabrics.com" target="_blank">http://www.seattlefabrics.com (http://www.seattlefabrics.com)</a>
<a href="http://www.owfinc.com" target="_blank">http://www.owfinc.com (http://www.owfinc.com)</a>

Expect to find it in about 60" width. Figure out what you want for legth plus seam allowance (2-1/2 yds) and then fold it in half lengthwise. Should work fine for a bivy sac. Gonna be heavy though. Close it with a zipper and you could open up flat and use it for a tarp or groundcloth.

OWF is a good place with helpful staff. They will also sell fractions of a yard and may find something in the remnants room for you. Never hurts to ask.
