Well, I have to say I’m pretty impressed with my new 8 man tipi. I’ll tell you right now, there is no way I would want to be in that tent with 8 folks. Backpacking, sure you could house 4 people nicely, but for car camping and boating I think it’s perfect for 2. Also, I would be leery taking friends or family that are clumsy or like to get drunk. The stove looks like it would bend in half by just thinking about really hard, but I guess that’s why it’s so light. As you can see from the pictures, I used a digital thermometer, with one of the door open it still got really hot.

I floated a stayed over night on the river. It was a great float, I saw tons of waterfowl (including some wood ducks), deer, swans and there was even a heard of elk that came down to the river right at sunset. Although, there where some fish rising to skwalas, I was in no mood to fish, I just wanted to play with the tipi.

Congrats on the new tipi.

I wouldn't want to camp with 7 other people in one either...but you COULD sleep 8 if necessary, hence the designation.

Nice looking country you have there. Thanks for the pic's.

Nice pics, enjoy your new tipi. There's nothin like a man-packable heated shelter in the back country. Makes your excursions that much more comfortable. I didnt know you could get Kokanee in Montana......

Hey Berntboater nice pic's - thanks for taking the time to share them. I just got a new 8 man as well!
So where did you float?
I used to own a canoe shop in MT and spent about 7 years trying to paddle navigatable mile of water in the state. It was a tough task.... but I thought somebody out to do it /images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

I floated a stretch of the Bitterroot south of Missoula. This time of year it’s a nice float with no one around.

This is really a great shot! What did you use as stakes?
The lower Flathead was another one I always enjoyed as an early season float too.

There was about 4" of sand and then small rocks. I used all durapegs except for 2 anchors where I used small SST stakes. problem was I now have 2 SST with small rock wedged into the bottom of them that don't look like they will come out easily.

Ah, the Flathead...great small mouth fishery.

Lorne,
I'm sitting here drinking a kokanee bottle, i'm not seeing bigfoot, a yeti or sasquash. Maybe after a few more...

The beer-toting guy on the label which shows Kokanee Peak, the Giant's Kneecap and the Battleship Glacier near my home town is NOT a "bigfoot"! That is a native "Sasquatch" found only the the Kootenays and they are VERY fond of beer!

The brewery that makes Kokanee was started by my family in Victoria, B.C. in 1870 and brought to Nelson, B.C. in 1893. They are now in Creston, B.C. and I wouldn't wash my car with the beer they pump out, ghastly stuff.

For REAL B.C. beer, absolutely worldclass brew, get the beers made in the original building my great-grandfather and his brother built in Nelson circa 1893-95. This is now Nelson Brewing Company and they make some of the finest beer I have ever tasted, "Paddywhack India Pale Ale" is one that WILL put hair on your chest!

Their "Old Brewery Ale" is an organic ale, brewed properly to the standards of the best German and British brewmasters and it is worth driving across the border to buy, it is just superb.

I have been known to drink the odd beer, myself, but, prefer to leave my ration out for the thirsty Sasquatches.

BEEEER! Nelson brewing does indeed make some excellent brews - have enjoyed them while out visiting in BC. Too bad they don't send it east to Manitoba. Another fantastic BC brewery is Dead Frog Brewery from Aldergrove. They make a wonderful Nut Brown Ale.

There is another on Van.Is. that also does a superb traditional brown ale, the big thing here is the really fine water. The Nelson Brewery was built where it is as there was a spring there and later, they built the municipal fire hall beside it for the same reason. Very picturesque late Victorian-Edwardian town, but, far too many hippy anti-hunters around.

I intend to try Dead Frog when doing my spring yardwork, gotta repalce that sweat somehow, now that bottled water has been found to be poison....always KNEW beer was best, eh!!!!

kute,

Any beer dubbed Dead Frog has to either extremely good, or extremely bad! /images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

Awhile back there was a micro brewery up nead Kamloops which makes a stout called "The Backhand of God". That's just gotta be good!

If Kute drinks it, it is probably pretty good.
Kute I thought you were in training?
Better knock off the beer and get back in the gym.

Ken,

I switched to tea, mostly decaf and herbal. The first week or so wasn't so much fun, but it's all good now.
