50.382% chance ;-) of my making it. The beginning of Feb is a jumbled mix of potential travel plans right now. I vaguely remember how to get there, similar to my recollection of college.
(I may need a refresher course.)

If I'm able to get myself organized, I'll really be trying to get there on Thursday. So I may be well placed to pick-up anyone coming in through an airport.

Sorrowfully, this year I will not be able to make it.

Woods Walker
01-27-2008, 07:15 PM
95% chance I will make it. I am thinking about Friday (a new girl may want me around for the 14th) but will know more later. A buddy from this MB may be showing up too.

What are the snow conditions so far this year. I know it can change quick (it did last year). See how I feel but will try to make it for at least a day.

Doug- So far there's not alot of snow and it's pretty firm and consolidated....nothing like last year...lol...

Ken,

Count me in!! I've got a few gallons of cider set aside. No sugar added this year, but we still came up with 8% alcohol (16 proof). Kinda like "beer-and-a-half".

Just got rid of a big project at work could have impinged on the fun, and now I'm good to go. I'm thinking about heading up Thursday, but will need to touch base with the better half about bugging out on Valentine's Day. Hopefully, it won't be an issue.

Looking forward to seeing everyone. Is the famous venison lasagna a possibility? I'll make a batch of venison stew, as we had good success here during deer season.

Ralph
01-29-2008, 08:44 PM
I'll be there, probably Saturday. A lot depends on the weather. Extreme cold and a lot of snow to plow through and I run out of steam fast. Wish it wasn't so, but that's the way it is. I'll try to have some new stuff to show you.

PA Scott
01-30-2008, 01:31 PM
Just because you asked...

Ken: the big guy on the other side of the deer is my 17 year old son Jared. He's 6' 4", plays high school football, and lifts weights like a maniac when not accompanying his old dad on outdoor adventures.

Chawn: the tupperware holds the leftover potato salad my wife made for supper on Friday. She'll generally make enough to last the weeked. It's actually better when it's sat in the fridge for a bit.

I'm really looking forward to seeing everyone, including our first-time ECR folks. No, that's not quite accurate... I'm PSYCHED to see everyone!!!

... just hope you enjoy banjo music played Wayne County style.

Ok. Here is the low down. I will be coming with my buddy Chainbearer Friday around 2ish if all goes as planned.

As a newbie, I'm looking forward to it, just confirming travel arrangements. Also, just as a heads up, I have 2 items to sell that I'm going to offer to ECR folks before I go to Garage Sale:
-Horizontal Lash Kit (minus two 1 inch Slotted Quick Attach Female SR Buckles) for $10 obo
-Small Stuff Sack for $30 obo

Can't wait to meet some fellow Kifaru enthusiasts. /images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

Ken
01-31-2008, 05:35 PM
oh...almost forgot...I'll have a large quantity of fine split hardwood for small/medium stoves. The large/arctic stoves can burn the wood that is already at camp and I'll have an axe or 5 handy to reduce the bigger wood if necessary.

Woods Walker
01-31-2008, 05:46 PM
Nice to hear about the wood for the small sized stove. More room in the sled for food. Even after last year’s no hat fiasco I am rescinding my ruling involving the Hungarian meats in light of the small sized split hardwood. /images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif

Ken
02-01-2008, 04:25 AM
I'll look...Patrick sent me a few hats for the local guys...I might have one for ya.

Patrick
02-01-2008, 09:17 AM
Woods, did you NOT get your hat from the '07 Rendezvous? Well, I can bring you mine, and have Maggie put in an order for me to replace that one...takes a while, especially if they're a one-off. I'll wear an older one, maybe from '05 even. I have the whole collection!

PA Scott
02-01-2008, 09:56 AM
Ah, the Big Guy finally chimes in. The shop must be busy (or the winter rambling too satisfying) for you not to sign in before on this thread.

Patrick, I was wondering -- have you been working on the words to Cassidy? I promise to bring enough cider to lubricate the pipes properly if you're willing to belt one out with me. I Know You Rider rides again as well.

PA Scott

Ken

What tipi's are you fellas bringing? It's always nice to have one of each size to look at.

Thanks.

Woods Walker
02-04-2008, 05:03 PM
Patrick.

Yes. But I somehow recovered. Don't worry about last year.

Ken.

I am bringing the 4-man with liner again for me and my buddy. I also have the Paratipi.

Ken
02-04-2008, 05:09 PM
Bringing the PT WW??..

Woods Walker
02-04-2008, 05:14 PM
Sure I can put the PT on the sled too. I can also bring my Pointman if anyone wants to check it out. Personally if not for the fact my buddy is coming to get away from the wife I would just bring the paratipi as often it is enough.

PA Scott
02-04-2008, 05:15 PM
I'm bringing the 8 man & large stove, and can bring my supertarp/annex & small stove if anyone's interested. I got a new jet sled for Xmas, and can now haul copious amounts of gear.

PA Scott

BTW - what's the word on Ksnake?

Ken
02-04-2008, 05:31 PM
Dunno...I think he is coming but haven't heard from him in a couple of weeks.

There should be a couple of ST/Annex's around...I think Plodder will be bringing his.

Anyone got a 6-man?

Dave R.
02-04-2008, 08:36 PM
If 2 elk is still aboard, there will be a 12-man at camp. If not, I'll either bring my vintage 4 man, or pass out in the 16 man.

Andy_in_NH
02-05-2008, 08:30 AM
Not to be presumptuous, but will there be enough space for the newbies to hang out in and crash?

As a contribution, I am bringing some rifle grade steel targets.

I can bring some steel pistol targets too if there is an interest.

I don’t own a Kifaru shelter yet and wanted to use the ECR as a kind of outdoor showroom. I’d like to see as many shelters (stoves, and packs) first hand as possible before making a purchase.

Dave R.
02-05-2008, 10:10 AM
Andy.....If you come, there will be plenty of room, no worries.

There will be plenty of shooting going on..

PA Scott
02-05-2008, 11:02 AM
Andy,

I'll have my 8 man with just me, so you're welcome to sleep there if you want. Just one word of warning --- I snore. Matter of fact, the first ECR back in '05, Patrick woke with a start one morning thinking that he heard a mountain lion growling a few yards away from the tipi. You got it -- was just me snoring.

I'll also bring a Long Hunter Rondezvous model and a Spike Camp.

Should be a blast! You're going to have a great time!

There are a few beds in the cabin. The 16 man is like a house in its own right. As for Scott. I wouldn’t risk it. His stove is missing parts /images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/eek.gif and earplugs are a must have. /images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif

I will be bringing a ST/A and a Siwash.
I also got a new toy this year called a SPOT.
I will be bringing it to the ECR in case anyone is interested.
If you have a cell phone that has SMS (text messaging) that will work in the 1000 acre swamp where the ECR is held. I will preprogam my SPOT and have it send a text message to your phone at the ECR via satelitte as we sit aroung the 16 man.

Tough getting sigal right there but we can still fiddle with it and try.

Andy- You can use my ST/Annex/small stove if you would like. Or you are welcome to hole up in my 8 man.

Ralph
02-06-2008, 05:33 AM
I haven't gone back and to tally the count, but it looks like we will have a complete lineup of Kifaru tentage and stoves there as well as a good assortment of packs and such.

Ken
02-06-2008, 07:42 AM
Sounds pretty complete to me too Ralph. If Patrick brings a 6-man along with the big 16, we should have all shelters present. The only thing we might be lacking is a Paratarp Annex. Ozark was going to bring the Paratarp.

Andy_in_NH
02-06-2008, 09:05 AM
Thanks to everyone who offered up a shelter to sleep in.

Snoring – no worries. It wouldn’t be the first time I’ve had to put up with it.

From the reports of last year and the comments for this year, I’m getting excited attending about my first rondy!

My stove is not missing parts. At least I don't think it is. I do have a downmat, though. Fill me full of cider & I'll wax poetic on its benefits. ... but you know that.

Ksnake, can you & Woodland Girl make it this year?

This year's cider is WONDERFUL. Nothing added. Just over 8% alcohol (like beer and a half). Very smooth. Stills sneaks up on you though. Fortunately, I've had lots of practice whilst ice fishing this winter (in serious cider training for the ECR, you know).

I'm bringing my MA 2000 modified Henry .22 and a flipper reset target to help while away the hours, as well as a -20 MOB if anyone is interested in checking it out.

If we've already got a batch of venison stew in the works, I'll bring a bunch of venison hot dogs and fixin's.

Gittin' Down to ECR!!!!!

It's not happening for me again this year. I can't believe it. I gave up the Shot Show so I could attend the ECR, and now I am not even going to be able to make the ECR. Long story short, my wife is coming back from out of state on the 14th. She has been caring for her sick sister (pancreatic cancer!)and will need some heavy duty support from me. Roads open for parking like it was last year. Pete, my cousin, plowed'er out this afternoon.

Same deal as last year...park as far to the left as possible without going in the ditch. This will allow room for getting buggies and snowmachines by...

We should be able to fit most of the vehicles up in the road.

Sweet Dave! Looking foward to seeing it.

Anyone know how LITTLE snow is required to use SST's? I'm not sure what is at the site, but we have over a foot of VERY dense, moist snow here at the house. This stuff will be like concrete once stamped down with snowshoes. It's been through freeze thaw cycles, freezing rain, rain...we've also pipcked up 6" or so over the last 24 hours of packy new stuff...

I'd think the short SST's will be in order.

I'm going to make a run up today hopefully and will try packing in some of the tipi areas.

I'm going to try and take off after work Thursday. Should be fun coming in at night.

Dave R.
02-10-2008, 06:08 AM
you need enough so that you can get a steep slant into the snow without hitting the ground.....in that type of snow a very steep slant will work well...famous last words!!

Snow shoes are a "just in case" this year??

Ken
02-10-2008, 08:03 AM
I'd bring shoes as you will fall through off trail...the trail in should be packed pretty tight.

weather.com says nights in the mid teens, days around 30 F next weekend....some snow too...

Ken
02-10-2008, 03:49 PM
Went up to the site today...got the trail and most of the camping spots packed in with the snowmachine.

I think my earlier assesment of snow conditions was a bit off. It seems that the snow was not all that consolidated under the crust. The machine wasn't breaking through, so I'm not sure how tight things will be come the end of the week.

I'd say bring the SST's and I'll have shovels onsite for digging out in case the snow doesn't want to respond to stomping in with snowshoes.

I'd like to ride with you guys if there's room. That is the tradition, after all, and we are conservatives at heart. Along those lines... I'm thinking of changing my voter registration to Democrat just so I can vote against Hillary in the PA primary.

I was considering leaving earlier on Thursday to give Ken a hand with set-up and picking people up at the airport if that would be a help.

Ken -- got anyone coming in on Thursday that needs to be picked up?

WW - my stove is NOT missing parts. It's just had lots of hard use under extreme conditions. Kinda like my knees.

BTW -- if all goes as planned, smoked cheese & smoked fish to munch on, along with the venison hot dogs & kielbasa for lunch one day. If I have room, I'll bring a batch of Sea Breezes for breakfast.

None, but ice tonight.

I'm packed up, pretty much.

The weatherman are calling for 6-12 tonight...I see single digits are forecasted for the weekend...

PA Scott

I'm seeing a forecast for Northville for Saturday and Saturday night that reads "Partly cloudy. Cold. Highs around 15. Lows 5 below to 10 below zero." And some said my -20 MOB was overkill.

I'll smoke the fish (catfish & smallmouth) Wednesday night; it's in the brine already. Cheese gets done tonight. I'm packed and ready to go. 5 gallons of cider are making the journey. We'll see how much makes it home.

I've got Thursday off from work, so I'm going to head out in the morning to arrive at camp in the early afternoon. Dave and Jason, I'll see you there. My sled is pretty big, and I'm concerned about having enough room for the 3 of us and our gear in a single vehicle.

BTW - Ken - make sure Jeremy brings his guitar.

I am thinking I may not make it. I go to Staten Island next monday for a three day orientation then get my boat assignment. I will be gone for the following 2 weeks. I think should spend my last few days home with my wife and kids. They are only young once.

seadug,

Even though we'll miss you, you'll never regret putting your family first.

When I was a little guy about 6 or 7 years old, my dad tucked me in bed one night. He paused for a moment lost in thought, then looked me in the eye and said "Scott, remember -- money won't make you happy, things won't make you happy. Your family is what will make you happy." That lesson has stuck with me, and the years have proven the wisdom of what my dad told me.

'Till next time, my friend.

Ken,

I'm bringing 30 venison hotdogs w/ rolls & sauerkraut & baked beans, as well as some venison sausage that my brother-in-law and I teamed up on. Smoked fish & smoked cheese, of course. For the uninitiated, smoked fish & smoked cheese in scrambled eggs is out of this world for breakfast.

Do you need me to bring anything else for chow? How about eggs for breakfast?

I'll drop you a line when I head out Thursday AM. I'll catch lunch on the road and hit camp around 1 or 2 PM. I know the way, and will be coming in by snowshoe pulling a sled. Hope your liver is ready for a river of cider!!!

Scott- I'll grab the eggs...I've got to get a bunch of juice also...gotta have good breakfasts.

The livers ready.

We will be headed in around then too Scott. I'll try to lighten your load some with the machine.

Ralph- It's been pure sh!t around here today...our 12" of snow turned into 6 followed by rediculous amounts of freezing rain. I haven't even made it to the site yet...hopefully it was more snow that ice/rain up there. This stuff makes last years weather look like a day at the beach.

Jason- I hope everyone gets better soon!..good luck, we will catch you next year.

I'm getting dryed out and warmed up a bit, then I'll be headed up to the site...I gotta feeling there's gonna be alot of chainsaw work to get the road cleared.

Full report later.

quick reminder...

park on the left side of the road tight to the snow bank...crawl out the passenger side if you have to...the road is a bit tighter this year.

Thanks...

Ken, I'll be leaving here Saturday morning, should be up there around 10AM. Don't know if I will be staying overnight, though. Ever since my pneumothorax I've had breathing problems and extremely cold air causes the lungs to contract, also creates clogging of the airway - a most uncomfortable situation. That's the reason I didn't make it last year. I do want to spend at least awhile with you guys, though, so I'll give it a try. See you Saturday.

Ken, I'm on my way, won't know how long I can stay until tonight.

Ralph, Hope it works out for you, I might only be able to stay a short time this year.

Ralph- Just getting your message...I'm headed back up shortly and will be in and out quite often today...I'll be looking for you.

I don't think I'll make it today. I had kind of a rough morning and by the time I got it together it was kind of late considering I don't think it wise to stay overnight. I'l try to get up for a couple of hours Sunday morning. When is everyone planning on leaving? Or is anyone figuring on staying until Monday (considering it's a holiday)?

Another fine ECR!

It was a pleasure to meet all the new folks who attended.

And hope to see all those who couldn't make at next years rondy....
