Gentlemen,
This is something of an unusual request. We’ve suffered our share of casualties over the past year, but I would like to ask for prayer requests for a couple of Men that have stood out. They are EOD operators that were struck down on the same day in seperate enguagements. They are two of the best operators I have and have displayed a level of personal courage and fortitude that is extraordinary.
The first Man suffered heavy fragmentation across his entire body. He is a martial arts enthusiast of the first water and his road to recovery will be long and painful.
The second Man lost a foot and is in jeopardy of loosing an arm. An exceptional operator, he is also a motorcycle enthusiast. Throughout this ordeal he has focused on recovery. Just hours after the attack I stood by his side and spoke with him in the hospital; he knew he’d lost his foot, and knew that his arm may have been injured beyond repair. He asked about the other operator, and the team member who had been standing by his side. He spoke lucidly about riding and managed to keep the hospital staff laughing when he asked if his tattoos were OK. In the months since the events he has progressed well, but he lives in the daily knowledge that he may loose his arm. A final decision may be several months away. I've had one operator choose to have a damaged limb amputated in the hope improved quality of life. I can’t imagine having to make that choice and I ask for your prayers to help sustain these Warriors through the days ahead.
I have a weak spot in my heart for EOD Operators, but these two have touched a raw nerve. I’ve a young daughter approaching adulthood and would have been proud to see her come home with either of these gentlemen. I ask for your prayers on behalf of them.
"for whoever has shed his blood with me shall be my brother. And those men afraid to go will think themselves as lesser men as they hear how we fought and died together..." Shakespear
