Forgive my ignorance (I don't even know if I spelled it right) but is tear gas used in battle?
It dawned on me while watching the takeover of one of the Iraqi towns, where the U.S. was having so much trouble distinquishing good from bad guys and having to go house to house and room to room.

At least in this situation it seemed that a little tear gas would bring them out, making them more vulnerable to defeat.

It's all right Buck.
We have been using tear gas or CS for a while. The Army would dump it by the barrel on ridgelines, to deter the vietcong.
The Marines use it as a trianing tool in the Gas chamber.
It is Quite effecint in riot control.

The laws of war are funny there. Its better to kill someone with a rifle than to incapacitate them with CS.
In Vietnam, Marines DID use teargas. There was a camera crew there and the report said poison gas. We captured like 35 NVA and killed noone. The media firestorm made it so bad that we didn't use it again with reporters around.
